Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We are a virtual nutrition practice. Jen, the founder of Plant-Powered Kidneys, resides in Florida.

What is Kidney Wellness Academy?

Kidney Wellness Academy is our online program specifically tailored to early-stage CKD(1-4, not on dialysis). It has been created by our founder and CEO, Jen Hernandez, renal dietitian, after years of working with people with CKD and helping them make healthy nutrition and lifestyle changes to protect kidney health to delay or even prevent dialysis for life. It is a self-paced program that also includes an option to join monthly live calls hosted by Jen & PPK dietitians to provide support, answers, guidance, and encouragement while learning how to apply evidence-based kidney nutrition guidelines to everyday life. 2) You can purchase various CKD-specific PDF meal plans here.
3) For custom meal plans, you can enroll in our CKD Meal Planning Membership here.
4) You can enroll in Kidney Wellness Academy, which includes 6 weeks of meal plans along with the education to teach you how to make your own kidney-friendly meals.

I’d like to work with a dietitian privately. Do you offer one-on-one dietitian services at Plant-Powered Kidneys?

Yes, we do offer private dietitian sessions. We work exclusively with people who have chronic kidney disease, in any stage or condition, that are prepared to make changes to their diet, be open to trying new things, and are motivated to keep their kidneys healthy. Learn more about our private sessions and packages here.

Do you work with people that are on dialysis?

We can serve as a consultant and part of your dialysis team. If you are in the United States, you have a dietitian that is already part of your dialysis team. But if you are not seeing eye-to-eye or you would like a second opinion or help with your diet, we may be able to work together. Let’s chat to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit!

What should I expect working with a dietitian at Plant-Powered Kidneys?

You will need to have a computer (laptop/desktop), tablet and/or smart phone for communication. All of our sessions are held virtually in your private client portal. You will be provided with meal plans and recipes that you will be encouraged to use while making the transition to your best kidney diet.
We also require you have a healthy relationship with your physician (read: go to your appointments as scheduled). We will not and cannot provide you the best service if you are not being followed by your nephrologist or primary care physician.

What if we live in a different state than you?

We are a fully virtual private practice and educational hub, so our location does not matter. What matters (for licensure purposes) is your state of residence. Each state has different requirements regarding dietitian licensure.
Your state may or may not require your dietitian to have a license before our initial assessment. If you’re interested in working with us, you can meet our team of dietitians and apply to work with one. We will help guide you to the best dietitian if there are license restrictions.

I live outside of the United States. How can I work with you?

Due to licensure laws of different countries, we are only allowed to work with clients within the United States in a one-to-one model. However, you can be a part of Kidney Wellness Academy.

Do you accept insurance?

At this time we do not accept any insurances, including Medicare. We can provide you with a superbill.

What types of payment do you take?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA/FSA (health savings account/flexible savings account) cards. Payment plans are also available for select services.

Why don’t you list your prices?

Packages are customized after speaking with you to assure that what we provide you will be the best value.
Not everyone needs the same services or support. After we chat, we can provide you with your customized kidney master plan to outline the details necessary to get you to your goals.
